Submit a journal proposal
Imperial Publishing is actively commissioning new academic journals in our core subject areas. We would be delighted to discuss your ideas for a new journal or how we might work with you to take an existing journal and build it into an internationally recognised publication.
To formally consider a new journal, please complete the proposal questionnaire that can be found here.
Review process
Publishing a new journal requires a large investment in staff time and financial resources over many years and so we carefully review proposals and will often ask further questions. We will thoroughly review your journal proposal and aim to give you a firm decision in just a few weeks. As part of the commissioning process we will conduct market research so please do let us know if any of the information you have provided is confidential.
What we look for in a journal proposal
Robust peer review processes and clear plan for encouraging high quality contributions. The long term sustainability of a new journal rests in the quality of the contributions that are received from the very first issue.
A clear vision and a genuine need for a new journal
For instance, does the journal represent a growing field of research that stuggles to find an outlet in mainstream journals? Is there a sizeable academic community that will feel predisposed to the journal?
Strong leadership and editorial support structures
We appreciate that a new journal not only requires investment from the publisher but also from the journal editors. We expect to see depth of talent and proven organisational skill in the lead editorial team and support from a strong (and willing), internationally recognised editorial board.
Good overlap with our book publishing programme
Journals require huge investment in maketing and promotion to succeed. We can offer this where there is significant overlap with our current programme.
nternational scope
We are an international publisher and are most interested in journals that will be of global relevance. We look to see evidence of global representation in the editorial team, advisory board and indicative articles.
Potential for a good working relationship
Publishing a journal is a long-term partnership between the publisher and the editors or society. As a family business we can provide stability, continuity and we hope to build a good relationship with you.
